Team victory at Rye 10 Mile race

There was a busy weekend of races for Heathfield Road Runners over the Bank Holiday as athletes from the club took part in the Weald Challenge Trail Races and claimed a team victory at the Rye 10 mile event.

The Rye 10 mile road race is the seventh in the 2015 Sussex Grand Prix series, held on a single lap course around the undulating tree lined lanes of Peasmarsh. The sun shone brightly creating warm, but not unpleasant conditions, as 183 runners took on the 10 mile route though the quiet and picturesque setting.
First in for the race was Tom Mullen from Haywards Heath Harriers who won the men’s race and Sue Fry from Hailsham Harriers ladies races who won the ladies race.
Heathfield Road Runners claimed victory for the men’s team prize, with superb efforts from Ian Bromley (1.05.15) and David Woodlard (1.05.47) delivering two top ten finishers for the club.
Amongst the other eight runners for Heathfield competing in the race were Rowan Baker (1.07.14), Cedric Clemerson (1.11.40); Tony Lavender (1.17.50); Bev Chapman (1.18.01); Taryn May (1.18.38); Graham Chapman (1.20.04); Amanda Soper (1.21.26); Niki Mar (1.27.11).
